Formed in 1990 in Gothenburg by guitarist Jesper Strömblad, In Flames is a renowned Swedish heavy metal band. They are credited, along with At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity, for pioneering Swedish death metal and melodic death metal genres.

In its formative years, In Flames featured a rotating lineup, including several session musicians. By their 1999 album "Colony", the band had solidified a consistent lineup. Their sixth album, "Reroute to Remain" released in 2002, marked a shift in their musical style, veering away from melodic death metal towards alternative metal. This shift drew mixed reactions, alienating some longtime fans of their heavier sound but simultaneously broadening their mainstream appeal and boosting album sales. As of 2008, In Flames has achieved global sales of over two million records.

Throughout their career, In Flames has produced fourteen studio albums, three EPs, and two live DVDs, with their fourteenth studio album, "Foregone," released in 2023. The band has received three Grammis Award nominations and has won twice: "Hard Rock/Metal of the Year" for "Soundtrack to Your Escape" in 2004, and the same category for "Come Clarity" in 2006.
