Sir Roderick David Stewart was born in 1945 in Highgate, London, England. Like many English children, he was interested in football, or soccer, as a child. He wanted to become a professional player, so much so that that’s all he focused on until he was 15-years old. When he tried out for professional teams, however, he didn’t receive a response, and turned to the only other thing he knew how to do, singing.

He played with several bands during his youth and took up the nickname, Rod the Mod. He ultimately pursued a solo career, and his album known as, Every Picture Tells a Story, became a US and UK hit simultaneously.
