Anthrax & Kreator
Brabanthallen, Den Bosch, Netherlands
15 December 2024 (Sunday) 18:30
Anthrax, an American thrash metal powerhouse from New York City, was formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. Widely recognized as a pioneering force in thrash metal, Anthrax is a member of the "Big Four" of the genre alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, helping define the 1980s thrash metal scene. The current lineup includes founding member Scott Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna, and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Over the years, Anthrax has experienced multiple lineup changes, with Ian remaining the sole constant, and Benante joining in 1983. The band’s debut album, *Fistful of Metal* (1984), featured singer Neil Turbin, but it was Belladonna’s arrival later that year that helped solidify Anthrax's classic sound. Their third album, *Among the Living* (1987), catapulted them to mainstream success and is celebrated as a landmark thrash metal album. Subsequent releases like *State of Euphoria* (1988) and *Persistence of Time* (1990) continued to build their legacy, with the latter earning the band their first Grammy nomination. In 1992, Anthrax signed a $10 million deal with Elektra Records, replacing Belladonna with John Bush from Armored Saint. Bush’s first album with Anthrax, *Sound of White Noise* (1993), became the band's highest-charting record, reaching number seven on the Billboard 200. In the mid-90s, Anthrax faced industry challenges, including label issues with *Stomp 442* (1995) and the record label's bankruptcy after *Volume 8: The Threat is Real* (1998). Bush left the band in 2005, leading to a reunion with Belladonna and guitarist Dan Spitz. After further lineup shifts, Belladonna returned in 2010, releasing *Worship Music* (2011) to critical acclaim. Their latest album, *For All Kings*, dropped in 2016. To date, Anthrax has released 11 studio albums, with four achieving RIAA gold certification. Known for blending metal with other genres, Anthrax famously collaborated with hip hop group Public Enemy on the hit "Bring the Noise." Their influence in metal remains significant, with Nielsen SoundScan reporting 2.5 million U.S. sales from 1991 to 2004 and a total of 10 million albums sold globally. -
